A balanced fund has a greater potential to diversify risk by investing in different asset classes, rather than just diversifying between instruments, as would be the case in dedicated equity or dedicated fixed income funds. Because the investments are highly diversified, investors reduce their market risk. On the risk ladder, balanced funds fall somewhere between equity and debt funds depending on the asset mix. In terms of returns it also provides a graduation over the bland returns of fixed income funds and the excessive volatility of returns associated with equities. |
